Computer-based Homology Searches

CBI is able to perform computer based homology searches. A homology search can be done with as few as 4 residues but the probability of finding meaningful data is higher with 8 or more residues. There is an hourly charge for homology searches and the time required to do the search greatly depends upon the number of databases to be searched. The protein sequence can first be converted to encoding DNA sequences in all possible reading frames and these sequences can be used to search the nucleic acid database.
