Laser Capture Microdissection

The Laser Capture Microdissection service provides an important tool in Molecular analysis at the DNA, RNA and protein levels. Laser Capture Microdissection increases cell-specificity from the tissues being analyzed, providing a new dimension to the analysis of gene function. Our LCM instrument can capture several hundreds of cells per session. We are equipped with the Autopix which is the recently released automated version of the manual PixCell II. In addition, our set-up allows us to streamline the samples obtained with our Microarray, Genomics, Forensics and Proteomics services. Therefore, depending on what the researcher wants, the captured cells can be processed with the specifications needed so that they can be immediately analyzed by our Microarray, Forensics, Genomics or Proteomics services.

Equipment

  • Autopix Laser Capture Microdissection System, Arcturus
  • Tissue-Tek Cryostat
  • Agilent BioAnalyzer

Basic Services

Tissue Isolation, Fixation and Processing

  • CBI provides isolation, fixation, sectioning and staining of tissues in order to process them by Laser Capture Microdissection.

Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) Services

Laser Capture Microdissection was developed as a result of a need to obtain a pure population of cells from a tissue.

It has been used in clinical and forensic studies as a way to isolate a desired cell type.

Stained slides processed are loaded into the Autopix and the desired cells are lifted. Isolated cells could further be processed either for Forensic analysis, protein (Mass spectrometry) or RNA analysis including microarray analysis (Affimetrix Gene chip analysis), Q-PCR or DNA analysis.
