Procedure

The DNA in each person contains genetic information that is a direct product of his or her parents' traits. In order to determine paternity the DNA of the child, mother, and alleged father can be analyzed to determine whether each person is related to the other.

HOW IT IS DONE?

Children receive half of their DNA from each of their parents. Therefore, in order to determine paternal identification, DNA samples are taken from the mother, child, and one or more alleged fathers. Samples of buccal (cheek cell) swabs or blood are obtained for comparison from the mother, child, and alleged father. If the male's traits do not match exactly with the child, he is eliminated as the biological father.

FAST

CBI's experienced staff and extensive equipment allows a rapid turnaround time of a few days, compared to the current market standard of almost two weeks. CBI is also able to accommodate large numbers of samples simultaneously. These advanced methods of testing prevent CBI from developing any backlog of samples. Therefore, CBI can speed up the testing process depending upon the urgency of the case.

PAINLESS

CBI's method of obtaining samples is as painless as brushing your teeth. CBI's non-invasive procedure simply requires rubbing a cotton swab on the inside of the cheek. Several samples are taken from each party to ensure that there is an adequate number of cells for testing.

ACCURATE

Since the alleged father must match the child's patterns exactly, results are over 99% accurate. CBI also adheres to all requirements of Chain of Custody; including sample security, laboratory security and documentation, and contamination control to ensure reliable evidence for court cases.

WHY TEST?

Paternity testing has a variety of applications, including child support and custody disputes, immigration cases, deceased parent/grandparent identifications, estate inheritance, prenatal testing, and criminal cases. In cases where paternity is being determined, DNA paternity testing has been found to produce the most accurate results.

WHO IS TESTED?

The mother, child, and one or more alleged fathers are tested. CBI's capabilities can even serve special circumstances. Babies can be tested at any time, even during the prenatal period. Testing of the alleged father, without the mother's participation, can also be arranged. Relatives of an alleged father can even be tested to "reconstruct" him if he is unavailable.

RESULTS

Once the tests are completed, the results are reviewed by the scientist that processed the case and a report is generated. With proper verification the results can be explained over the telephone. A notarized copy will be mailed only to addresses designated by those tested. Each report is confidential and given only to the mother, alleged father, and any authorized agency that is involved in the case.
